AlanM
Since changing my dials on Saturday the needle on my fuel gauge has not budged from the 3/4 mark, exactly here it was before I took it apart. Any ideas better than taking it apart and giving it a nudge? [OOPS][/OOPS]
Supra ST Myster
did you have to remove the needles? your gona have to make sure you connected everything back up as the gauge stays where it is even if there is no power on it, if it is a plug it should re adjust to the correct fuel level
AlanM
Yea, had to take off all the needles. Put them all back on where they came off ie the speedo was at the 6o'clock position. (it now reads 5 mph fast, minor detail). The temp gauge, rev counter working fine as before. The fuel gauge needle was 1 notch over 3/4 full and that is where it was put back on to but have done 60 miles in 6 journeys and it is still in same place, might have to take dash off and "nudge" it
Supra ST Myster
you may find then you have missed the pin when putting the needle back on so in that case to get the correct fuel readout you are going to have to fill it right up then fit the needle at the top
AlanM
Will fill it up before I try again then, ta
AlanM
Are the needle and light independant of each other?
Wazz72
Yes I think so. I fitted a El Glo kit to mine about 2 months ago. Then I changed it for an Auto one. The first time i fitted it the only needle I had to take off was the temp one, which I fitted back a bit to high. My car temp read at abou 3/4 of the gauge when running instead of about 1/2. The second time around I fixed this, but when i put my fuel gauge on I must have moved the needle anti clockwise a bit. When I turned on my engin and everything kicked in the petrol gauge started going backwards. I knew I had 1/2 a tank in, but the car registered about 1 cm below reserve. When this happened the petrol light stayed off, so I assume they work independant from each other. I had to fill up, wait 5 mins, take everything apart again and put the needle back on in the Full position.
Supra ST Myster
yes the low petrol light comes from the ecu, nothing to do with the needle position... its not that clever
AlanM
Good, I am glad I haven't naffed both of them, least I will know if things get critical before I fix it
Supra ST Myster
yeah, if you dont get time to check it out, least you got the fuel light to go by so you know when you are running low.
SimonB
yes the low petrol light comes from the ecu, nothing to do with the needle position... its not that clever It doesn't actually, it's done by the circuit board by the fuel gauge. Only reason it's independant of the needle position is that the needle can be stuck on anywhere on the metal pin - it's not independant of that. AlanM
As long as it comes on when I am running low (will probably keep it topped up anyway until I fix gauge)
