MarkTheBoy
Hi all, Recently got back from holiday to find my mouse no longer works, thought nothing of it and went out and bought a new one which also doesn't work... realised that I hadn't tried using the usb ports for anything else so tried my pen drive... nothing. All three of my USB ports dont work, I did get one of them to pop up a message saying "unidentified something or other inserted into usb port" when I tried my pen drive, but now nothing comes up anymore. The laptop is my work one and used everyday in the office, whilst i was away it was used a couple of times by one of the girls in the office to check on my work, emails etc, but nothing was installed/deleted/messed about with. I've tried an auto recovery (rolling back to a date I knew it all worked) but no joy. Its an HP laptop, about a year old but I have the feeling it was a cheap one. Its got XP too. If you need the spec I can probably get it but as you can tell im not exactly computer litterate! Hardwear? Softwear? Anyone help? Cheers Mark
edd_t
Is it a Toshiba? I had 2 Toshiba laptops do the same recently on the same day! Am thinking its perhaps an XP update that may have fluffed up the USB drivers.
ivan
Its an HP laptop... You could try deleting the ports from Device Manager and reboot. XP should redetect and install them.

AndyT
Sounds like auto update's done something. If you have recovery disc use it. If not, don't know. Do know there's loads of top people here and they're gonna help. Luck.
