There are claims that they can make your engine run smoother, give more power, make headlights brighter. All very bold claims. Guest Mycroft Posted April 1, 2002 Share Posted April 1, 2002 On our cars we have loads of electrical 'goodies' and the return current flow gets very congested. This can and does lead to the flow slowing to a 'trickle' in most instances this is not a problem, but occasionally it can ause a lowering of efficiency, since 1999 Lexus and Toyota models that are highly specced have a 'prioritised' earthing system (that is the better, more accurate term) and the cars are better for it, you can do the same with some good quality OFC Copper from a good hi-fi store and some decent clips, I did my car a couple of years ago and have not had the 'failures' that are 'thought' to occur 'as a result of this less than perfect earthing. The failures are all to do with some of the smaller ECU's not having a 'steady-state' earth, the fuel ECU, Aircon ECU,seats etc etc. I would not pay £80 for a proprietry system but £30 for a little bit of added surety seems cheap to me. I combined my system with the Hi-Fi install I did and just made a complete 'cabin' earth direct to the battery, there seemed to be an 'improvement' but I'm not entirely sure it wasn't me just being optimistic, but my car so far has had none of the 'Electrical Gremlins' that appear in the other Soarers! As long as your earth points are clean and tight i don't see why you should have any problems and therefore how a 'powered earth' (WTF) can help. Guest Mycroft Posted April 1, 2002 Share Posted April 1, 2002 Isn't it strange that we spend a fortune buying good quality OFC cable for our Hi-fis yet cavill over spend similar money for the same quality wiring to the ECU's in the same car? Anyway, I got some decent low loss stuff connected it (directly on the unit) to everything in the cabin that controlled something(?) and gathered them together, upped the size and connected that to the battery negative. Guest Mycroft Posted April 1, 2002 Share Posted April 1, 2002 It is hard to tell as I did so much (including a new battery) at the same time but I know that I have had fewer (none) gremlins that other TT Soarer owners have had since.
