Supragaz
Just found out today that I have been a target of identity fraud I sold my house in May last year to a good friend and he has been bringing me post he gets every so often in my name (mainly circulars etc) Today he came round with a big wad of letters and I start ploughing through them (again 95 % are circulars) I get to a letter addressed to me from 'Audi Card' and think thats odd. In the letter, dated 16th Februaury 2007, it thanked me for my recent application for their credit card but says they have refused me due to needing some clarification on some details given. I shat myself as I have never heard of Audi Card and certainly never applyed for a credit card from them!! They were very helpful and told me the details they were given (mothers maiden name = Smith etc.) Luckily the theiving scum who tried this online application for a credit card in my name DIDNT have my bank account details so I breathed a sigh of relief BUT they did have my date of birth right!!! I feel sick that someone has tried this with my I.D but relieved that they wasnt successful. I just wonder how many other times they have tried to get stuff in my name and been successful? I have had 2 credit checks done by Equifax and Experian to find out exactly what else I have applied for credit wise Sorry for the rant, just shocked and really p***ed off at the mo

colsoop
What a horrible feeling. Buy yourself a hand held shredder and shred every piece of mail witrh your name and address on it. Also if you have a muyspace remove any identifying features dob, location etc. It isn't hard to get details from the electroal role either

ABout 15 quid for 3 months - just done this myself - amazed at who sends me mail. What doesn't help is the partially pre-filled credit card applications that get sent through - I mean, come on! that's like inviting someone to obtain credit in your name...bah!
