Can't get into the bios settings

Recommended Posts

I tried and failed miserably to fix a friends pc today.

It wouldnt boot from the windows cd, so I attempted to go into the bios settings to change the boot order.

However when I pressed DEL, although the memory check stopped and it looked like it was going to work, it never actually made it to the bios, it just sat there with a blank screen.

Any ideas how to sort this out or get round it ?

TIA

So.

The reason I say clear the CMOS is that if you have added/removed hardware and/or changed BIOS settings already or if a piece of hardware is failed but specified in the BIOS, some systems will not allow you into the BIOS to change it as it will fail prior to the BIOS.

Clearing the CMOS sets everything back to default which may well let you back in. Especially if it sets most things to AUTO as then the system will not be looking for items no longer present.

If you get more info and it is not yet sorted, let me know.
