Guest ROBT
Is there a great deal of diffrence between the 5 and 6 speed manual boxes? Is there a better or worse of the two? Any help on this matter is greatly apreciated Rob
Rayman
Yeh the 6-sped is a getrag and the 5-speed is toyota i think. The 6-speed can handle more power so therefore its better, its tougher but feels clunkier i believe!
Guest ROBT
in that case then is it an easy conversion to go from a 5 speed to a 6 if more power is needed later on?
SimonB
The 5speed is only available on NAs, and the increase in power you can get on one is pretty limited anyway, so it's a bit irrelavent really. Unless you go NA-T (stick a turbo on) but you're better off just starting with a TT in that case.

I can vouch for 6 speed being a bit clunky but you do get used to it and it does feel very solid and bullet proof.
mikeyb10supra
an r154 box from the 1jz is fairly strong and should hold a small single + is 5-speed....you will need the w85 (aka N/A 5-speed) bell housing though I would always opt for the 6-speed if you can find one though
