neilg
Hi everyone, I have used search and found many matches, however reading through them all i cannot find a straight answer. They all just seem to wonder off into random conversations! So can someone let me know what size rear plate i need to get made up to replace the standard jap plate on the rear. Thanks everyone
martynb
There are a lot of opinions it is true, but the actual size specs are listed on the dvla site if you want to be 100% legal. Main thing is make sure it is big enough to cover the enormous and mysterious hole in the bodywork.

geoffvalenti
Well my rear No. plate is 33cm x 18cm and there's no gaping hole around that. Its a '97 J-spec (obviously) but I don't think the rear bumper changed much over the years HTH
Jake
on my '93 RZ the hole is 290mm wide and 162mm high ....but it has a bracket type thing each side that you'll also want to cover, so you'll need the plate to be a minimum of 370mm wide (and a maximum of 185mm high BTW)

Jake
I took the pic without flash but it didn't come out very well, you can't read the tape measure, but the sizes I said before are correct. It raining now so I'd rather not take another pic. See attached pic :
neilg
Cheers jake thats much appriciated, are those brackets just mouldings on the bumper? Shouldnt the plate sit between them or does it look better with them covered?

I prefer a more UK style plate though, i.e. one with all the characters in one row (even though my car is an import)
neilg
ok well if you get a min sometime, take a picture with the plate on, i was going to get one made up on 2 lines, you think thats a bad idea? does it look better all in one line?
Jake
It's not a bad idea as such, just in my opinion the UK style number plates look better, personal preference really.
