AMG
Right, i was going to give up trying to sort this out but i am off work today and tomorrow, bored out of my head. I have obviously wired something in wrong at some point and my dash illumination does not work. When i switch the lights on, the odo illumination goes off completely I am going to try and hunt down the problem but what could make to odo go off? All the fuses are fine. Once i have sorted it i will never touch the electric again.
AMG
forgot to add. The blower speed indicator only comes on when the lights are swithced on, have to guess the speed of blowers in daylight. I am lost for ideas.
sdavies
Bumpety bump... just had this happen to me. I have been refurbishing my heater unit to allow for illumination, it all seemed to be ok (I tested it a few times before slapping it all back together). I plug everything back into the dash and whammo - no illumination works... haven't had a chance to track down the fuses yet - but sounds pretty much exactly what is going on for me! I put the lights on and the green lights on the fan speed control go very dim (almost look off) and the odo goes dim as hell. I unhooked the heater controls and disconnected everything from the centre dash panel, reconnected battery and re-tried - all still fooked - so think I have killed something - hoping it is a fuse! Class One
You will sometimes find that the dash lights do very weird things if you do not pug in the dimmer control switch, and also the ashtray light plug by the gear box. Try those.
sdavies
I checked the connection near the gearbox (the rear fog switch appears to be running off it) - and it *looks* fine sadly.. (I will get my tester on it when I can though) - new symptom, the indicators aren't working off the stalk, but flash when the alarm is activated - but I think that may be down to something else I have done... jeeeeees.. why do I bother trying these things in my spare time - it always takes longer than anticipated, costs twice as much as if I had paid someone else to do it and leaves me with something broken. Arse! Also - who thought it was funny to put as little cable/wiring in as tight a space as possible with sharp traps behind them!!? Japanese engineer sense of humour methinks!! Damn my fat (and now bloodied) hands. I'll check my fuses after the weekend now - no time left to do it, too dark and wet to go scrablbing around the footwell of the car with no garage to cover me.
