Charging mobile phone for the first time?

So how long do people generally charge their new phones for the first time?

 

I've always done mine for the suggested 12-16 hours, and they're usually OK, my gf ALWAYS fiddles with the phone and unplugs it when the bar is full (2 hours ish) and her batteries start going shitty after ~6 months.

 

 

What's best though? I hear people say that leaving it on charge when it says it's full is damaging; is that only after the first time? How long could I leave it on the first time without doing any damage? 36 hours? What about charging a phone that hasn't completely run down?

Always 16 hours, as the batteries do run the risk of not holding a charge after a while.

i think the modern batteries do not need such a long charge, thats wat voda said anyway

The manuals don't seem to say anything about a long charge any more - at least Samsung manuals don't.

I used to work for Orange many moons ago and we used to always advise a 16 hour 'conditioning' charge.

 

That said they don't tell you that any more so perhaps batteries are a bit more hardy these days...?

agreed. nowadays i'll plug it in initially for something like 4-6 hours but always try and let it run down completely and give it a full recharge every six weeks.

my mate runs a phone shop and always advises between 8-12 hour conditional charge

I was always told if you want a good baterry life then charge it for 12 hours or so the first time then use it and let it drain right down until it beeps before charging it again then after that charge it as normal
