Telescopes ? ? ?

Ok, so I've been given the family task of buying my dads xmass present this year. He has always been interested in astronomical goings on and since having recently moved house to a more rural location has decided that there is so little light pollution that he now wants a telescope. Having no ideas at all about them, I'm hoping someone on here can point me in the right direction???

seems to be some fair stuff on EBay just google it - the Bresser ones look pretty good but Im no expert cheap will be like toys so read specs:D

we used to have a Tasco Telescope, it was only a cheap one but it was pretty good, but i believe the reflection ones are better but don't cost a fortune

I had a Meade 10" that was very nice, it was completely motorised and computer controlled and would take you on tours of the sky without you having to do much but sit and watch. Only problem is it was quite pricey (around 5K) probably a bit out of your price range.
