Phil Wall
Just a quick question. When doing a simple drain and refill on the auto box, I presume the fluid is drained hot i.e.at NOT - Normal operating temperature?
Guest Martin F
I would say yes, as it would help with the flow of more oil than when it's cold.
Phil Wall
That is what I thought, but I can't find service manual pages anywhere. MKIV.com says 1.9 litre of fluid, but no links to process. Also would like to torque the drain plug correctly. (Edited by Phil Wall at 12:04 am on April 13, 2002)

Phil Wall
Having drained the fluid from the box sump, I proceeded to replace 1.9 lt of new fluid. Checked the dipstick again after running the engine and going through the appropriate shift sequence several times, the fluid level was at cold. The whole system had cool sufficiently to require and drive to get the system up to temperature to get an appropriate hot reading. Just thought I would mention this in case someone decides to fill to the hot mark after a drain, you could find you have 1/2 lt more fluid than you should, once the system is hot. AgtX80
Im getting this noise too & my fluid appears to be nice & pink/red. Just like he says, can hear it louder with the window down, stick it in neutral while moving & it goes away.

Schtuv
Holy thread revival, Batman! ... and I was only reading on here (and almost every other car forum on the interweboblogosphere) about the mythical 'Mycroft' last night. Interesting revival thread!

RedM
No stories here. I know that it's an old thread and it's somewhat amusing to have it revived but remember: no chat in tech.
AgtX80
so no ideas on the noise? if 2 people have had it, others must.
