I was just coming off a motorway sliproad and changed down a gear, and I noticed a squealing noise. I looked around, but there were no other cars about. As I pulled away, I realised it was my car that had the squealy fanbelt. After a chat with Dude, we've come to the conclusion that my bottom pulley is buggered, and it's managed to move itself forwards! The belt is still on the pulley, but now sitting behind where is should, and it's carved it's own groves into the rubber section! Before anyone asks, the cambelt was changed 25,000 miles ago. dude Posted April 26, 2004 Share Posted April 26, 2004 Second one ive seen in a week and the first is a car that the guys had for 4 years , he's had 2 belts on it and never a gas axe near it !!!!!!!! these are now 11 years old on some cars be prepared to see a few more !!!! Whilst I do have issues with work they've done, I doubt the old heat 'n' melt trick would have taken this long to surface. Until I see it off the car, I think Johns right, it's just showing it's age. Darren it was a stock car but hi miles and i only saw the pulley , it could have been caused by using a 3 legged puller on the outer rim i suppose , guess we'll never know as his mechanic isn going to own up to breaking the thing !!! Dude:flame Dev Ok, thanks for the information. I think Matt has a light flywheel and I was just wondering whether some kind of vibration may have destroyed the rubber or shaken it loose.
