Actuators

Cable

Ok I'm getting my supra in a few months and I plan to do a few mods to it straight away. I'm new to the Supra but not to general tuning so please excuse me if I seem to be missing something and feel free to correct me wherever necessary.

My query is regarding the turbo actuators and what boost they are set for without cats & restrictor rings? The reason I ask is that surely it would be more stable, less lag and maybe even more power to get actuators that are set at 1.2 bar lets say than to have a restrictor ring control the boost?

Cheers

Neil

The supra actuators are non-adjustable with the stock boost contolled by electronic VSV's.

The std actuators are set for 17.5-18.0 psi thers a note in the manual about it, i am running mine in TTC mode on just the actuators, but i do have a restrictor ring, going to remove it to see if the boost remains constant, i think that when the VSVs are in the equation, the boost can get out of control without the restrictor ring.

The wastegate actuator starts to open at 12psi and is fully open by 18psi. The others (IACV/EGCV/EGBV) are open at lower pressure than this.

i think that when the VSVs are in the equation, the boost can get out of control without the restrictor ring.

The VSV is irrelevant. The physical size of the stock wastegate is overwhelmed by the boost the car makes when de-catted causing overboosting without a restrictor ring in most cases.

Sorry slightly wrong, no 1 turbo waste gate actuator should open at 17.psi and no 2 at 14.psi test as specified in the manual,

will let you know just how the boost behaves with ring removed,

just interested as i don't know if anyone else has tried this when just using the actuators, not desputing that the supra does over boost without a ring, but going by turbos on other cars, ie T25 and T28, T25 being similar size to the supra turbo, and it runs a waste gate roughly the same size as the supra turbo, and is supplied with exhaust gas by 1.8 lt 4cyl engine, yet this does not over boost when fitted with decat and 3" exhaust, yet the Supra has split feed to turbos and each is supplied by 1.5 lt 3cyl.

So it has not so much to do with the Actuators but more to do with the wastegate size? So changeing the actuators to ones that open lower would have no effect? What is the solution running stable boost without a restrictor ring... changing to hybrid turbos or all together new turbo kit?
