outatime
I've got a funny noise coming from the back of my Supra, its rotational and kind of a scuffing sound. My first thoughts are wheel bearings or the calipers rubbing. Anyone had their bearings go, what did it sound like? The cars been standing a while, and it seems worse now i've got it going again. Rob
Are the disks all rusty, if the cars been standing?
outatime
They were at first, but after a couple of stops they are nice and shiny again. Are you thinking that the brakes are binding?
Digsy
Wouldn't be the first time - especially on a J-spec with sliding calipers front and rear. I had a sticking rear caliper around Christmas which I managed to free off and (touch wood) hasn't re-occured. Noow it appears that I've got a binding handbrake. On the other hand it could just be a small stone or leaf stuck in between the disc guard and the disk. Have you had a check around there? Try jacking the wheel up, letting the handbrake off (chock the front wheels) put the car in neutral and try to turn the wheel in question. If you can't or it is difficult, then you probably have a sticky caliper.
outatime
Thanks for the replies, i'll jack it up later and have a look around. Hopefully its just something sticking, it has been standing since January and otherwise is parked on a steep hill.
Digsy
Interesting that you should mention that. I re-adjusted my handbrake today but my "binding" symptoms have not gone away. My driveway slopes forwrds. When I put everything back together I did wonder whether always parking like this may be causing some problems with the handbrake? Please see my other thread about this so as not to hijack Outatime's.
outatime
Don't worry about hijacking, its all relevant. I don't think it is my calipers binding, the noise carries on even under braking. That leaves handbrake or the wheel bearings? I know noises are hard to describe, but what did yours sound like Darren? Mine is a sort of scuffing/scraping sound :EDIT: I just read your thread, I see you aren't getting any noise.
Digsy
I got a noise when I hadn't quite released the handbrake pads enough, that might be described as scuffing, but I didnt get a noise in the first place, or now.
