Paul
Agencies are tossers, the people that work in them normally have no experience in the field that they are recruiting. From my dealings, they have little or no respect for people they have on their books and act like failed estate agents. You saying that they wouldn't send someone without a licence, I think they would, they don't seem to do any checks on people we have in at my firm. We get blokes in and then within a few hrs we suss that they are full of shit and have no background in engineering or aerospace at all, what really pisses the permanent staff of is that these twats bullshit from firm to firm and are earning twice as much per hour as a time served guy with years of experience! Paul and saying they don't do checks thats bolloks,, you have to take all your documents down to the agency and show them and they take a copy,,, and if you have more than 6 points they don't like it at all,, so there not shoddy at all in my eyes.. thats why i was pissed of this morning as I've had all my checks done. JamesG
Don't get me started about ID today! I ordered a Sharp Zaurus PDA from Japan and went down to the DHL depot this morning to pick it up (it was due to be delivered to work on Monday). Anyway, I had some ID, but nothing with my work address. They refused point-blank to give me the parcel, though they said they would have done if I had a photo driving licence (WTF?!) So then I went to Tesco's to get a steak and a bottle of wine for this evening. And the idiot cashier who hardly spoke a word of English said I couldn't buy the wine without ID. Aaaghhhhhh!!!! I'm 28, I don't look particularly young, and I've never been asked for ID before. I called the supervisor over, and she said that she couldn't overrule the system as the cashier had queried the sale and I didn't have proof of age. WHY CAN'T PEOPLE JUST USE SOME COMMON SENSE!!!!! Not being funny either but you can't 'blag' your way through making bits for Aircraft or Space projects but these twats seem to think they can. The problem with my line of work is unless the agencies know the trade and what they are talking about, ie. sussing out their experience and apprenticeship details/qualifications then people can easily slip through for us to chuck out later. Truck driving is easier to police I guess as it just falls down to a licence and whether it's legit? Paul

We had a guy turn up at the place I last worked in the UK and it transpired that he was actually an ex car tyre fitter and somehow blagged his way past the agency into the mechanical aviation technicians job. He managed a whole day (health and safety and personel processing took until 3PM lol) before someone twigged him. Made me laugh that one of the management considering keeping him on "to do something" as they were so strapped for manpower and didnt want to admit that they'd f*cked up letting him in. gjp
The plastic part of your licence isnt worth shit, its the paper part that needs to be shown for id as my other half found out the other week when she went for her drinks licence. When I was looking for a job, just before Xmas, I spotted a Tandem Operators role. This suited me at the time as I was looking to spend some more time at home with the Family. Called the agency and everything was fine, spoke to a chap who knew what he was talking about. A couple of days later I get a letter regarding a job interview. When I read the letter it was for a Tandems Systems Management role (Which I was in at the time and wanted to get out of). Called the agency and spoke to a dozy mare who said they put me forward for the other role as they thought it was better suited for me. Now I asked for the other job, why the f*$k do they think they know better then me. Fair to say that I never heard anything else from the agency regarding the Op role. In fact never heard anything back from them at all.. Dodn't even answer E-Mails asking what was going on. The funny thing is, she sounded surprised when I said I didn't want to goto the interview. All in all, really pee'd me off at quite a low point in my career. They should have known though what the company were expecting from you though.
