HELP !!! has my turbo gone pop?

:( Gutted. Can someone help me diagnose this...although i think i know where its gonna lead..:(

Just went for a spirited drive, keeping a eye on Boost/AFR as i just replaced a boost hose that i found split, all was fine was actually getting slightly more boost through the gears than usual(put this down to the previously split hose).

heard a BIG hiss, boost gauge was showing zero, Exhaust note changed to a slightly louder, deeper more gravely kind of noise.

After investigation i found the hose had come off the back of the boost guage!!!

Anyway, the exhaust note is still the same and now I am getting lots of smoke!!

Has my turbo gone POP ??:(

Have you put the pipe back on and run the car? If yes, hows it driving?

have'nt driven it since, didn't know if i would do more damage? the smoke put me off a bit aswell. I did start it and as i said it was a pretty smokey.

There dosnt seem to be any unusual noises coming from the engine and it ticks over nice...but the exhaust note is still unusual.

Would it be a good idea to go for a spin? Or do i risk doing more damage?

Check your intercooler pipework for excessive oil. Sounds like a big overboost has popped a turbo (also blowing your boost guage pipework off) :(

Cheers, I will go and have a look. What would cause the over boost? would the boost gauge pipe coming off do this? Or would that cause less boost?

Just looked in the one from the turbo manifold down to the intercooler and i would say its got an oil mist in it. doesnt appear excessive but there is definently a little. Is that normal?

I did only drive about 1/2 mile home, so would it need more time for excessive oil to show?

Several different ways to blow a turbo, so you may not get any oil at all IIRC. You could of smashed the exhaust vanes from tubbie 1 or something. As for a small amount of mist in the pipe work, it is OK, I have the same in mine, as long as it's not running down out the pipe, you should be OK.

Best that you check all of the pipes and bits and pieces on top of the turbos.

Best double check all of the intercooler pipe connections, even the difficult ones, I used to have problems with the plastic and rubber ones, untill I upgraded to the HKS hard pipe kit.

Thanks for your input.

I'm gonna go and have a good look for anything unusual around the turbo's.

Would problems with the intercooler pipework do this?

If the vanes smashed would this cause smoke ?

If an intercooler pipe popped off, then all of the pressure built up by the turbo would escape through the gap. Check for any holes in any pipes, someone had a split one a little while ago.

If the exhaust vanes shattered, then mostly they will just fly through, and if you are decatted, out of the exhaust into the bumper of the car behind. They could do a bit more damage I suppose, all depends how bad and how they shattered etc.

If your boost controller ref is tee'd into the guage pipe (which blew off) it could (depending on the type of BC) cause a massive overboost.

When my hybrids failed, they dumped oil into the compressor side causing lots of smoke on boost (although I did limp home off boost) Also exhaust note changed considerably.

:( Right guys thanks for you help diagnosing the problem.

I know this may seem strange( I don't normally fist my soop) but i just put my hand up the exhaust pipe and found a hanfull of what can only be described as little ceramic pieces :(

Conclusive evidance (i think) that one of my turbo's has gone pop.:(

My questions now are,What other damage might this have caused?

and, whether it could be very carfully driven to a workshop where I could leave it and contemplate my next move?
