Elliot
Hi Everyone, On Sunday the 10th September 2006 I will be taking part in the Robin Hood Half Marathon (13 miles) in Nottingham as part of a team of runners. The reason we are running such an insane distance is because on the 20th November 2005 my friend’s (Chris Burnett) Brother-in-Law, Mark Futcher passed away suddenly, of a hereditary heart condition at the young age of 35. Mark left behind his wife Maria and his 3 year old daughter Lauren. Firstly, we wanted to make sure that something positive came out of this tragedy. Secondly, we wanted to raise awareness of Mark's condition, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. And thirdly we wanted to raise awareness and raise some money for the Rainbow Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy. Mark and Maria's daughter Lauren was born with a mild form of Cerebral Palsy and is a member of the Rainbow Centre in Fareham, Hampshire. It uses a system of learning called Conductive Education to enable children to overcome the difficulties caused by their condition. Although I have never met Lauren, or been to the centre, I am assured of the valuable work this organisation carries out and the benefits it brings to the children. They really do need our help and support to enable them to continue the amazing work that they do. So please, please, dig deep, or even just a £1 or £2. Every penny counts! Go on line and sponsor us now at the link below! http://www.justgiving.com/markfutcherappeal Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: The Rainbow Centre For Conductive Education Ltd will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Please can you pass this on to as many people as possible as we are trying to raise £5000. Many thanks for your support. Elliot Drew
Elliot
Hey folks Sorry about the long post, it's mainly a letter my friend has sent me, but I've adapted it slightly as I didn't know Mark personally. It would be great if anyone could donate just a £1 or anything! I haven't even asked my close friends and family for sponsorship yet, but thought I might try here tonight. They know I am running, so hopefully I should raise a fair bit. I'm going to donate soon as well. My girlfriend & 2 best mates are also running, so it would be good to get some support. Anyone live in Nottingham? Support on the day would be appreciated! Haven't run 13 miles for 10 years! (ran 4 half marathons when I was younger & fit!) Thanks

I'll let everyone know the next day how it went, as I'm staying up there the night of the race & travelling back home the next day (on my girlfriends birthday! lol, she's gonna be knackered!) I'm not aiming to get a brilliant time, I'm not fit enough for that yet! Hopefully I'll be able to get fit enough to run the full marathon next year. Would love to make it a regular event, especially considering how unfit I've become over the last few years! Anyone know Sadie?! Is she mad!? 2 hours 7 minutes?! 10 minute miles? Hmm, not sure about that!

Thanks for the free bump! I'm half way between houses so internet access is going to be a bit sporadic until Wednesday night! Quick note - if anyone does contribute, could you please put mkiv down so I know you're from here so I can thank you!? There's quite a few names on there I don't recognise and wasn't sure if it was someone from the club! There's also an anonymous sponsor! How exciting! Wonder who that is!? Elliot
Tuesday evening thread bump Thanks Ian! I've managed to get online tonight. Gotta take my computer down the new house in anticipation for the new cable tomorrow! C'mon folks, would love a few more pennies in the pot! The sooner we reach £5k, the sooner I don't have to feel bad about putting in a sizeable chunk of cash myself! How much do you guys think I should I sponsor? I'm really skint at the mo, and putting everything on my credit card (as well as moving home!) but was thinking about putting £50 on. Did think about £100, but that's way more than I can afford at the mo.
