Stock Supra vs. Evo 8 Race

Hi, One of my friends has a stock Evo8 that he recently purchased. I also just purchased my supra turbo. It is a 1993 stock supra twin turbo with only 15,000 miles on it.

Anyway, My friend and I are interested in doing a race. It should be a close race and I'm looking to tip the odds in my favor. I want to get a boost controller and crank up my psi, just a tad. I am aware that it is set to 9 psi stock, I am thinking of bringing it up to about 11 or 12. Do you guys know if this is safe at all to do, and what precautions I should have about doing this.

Thanks guys,

Mike

I'm not sure how restricted on mods you are in Minnesota but you should be able to run 17psi - ideally you want a free flowing exhaust and to remove the CATs but I'm guessing that might be tricky due to emissions?

Increasing the boost will probably mean you'll need a fuel cut device of some kind and you really need an accurate boost gauge to ensure everything is in order - an electronic boost controller will probably solve this for you though.

Once these bits are on it might be advisable to run a colder plug.

As I said I'm not sure how much of this you can or want to do but basic BPU mods totally transform the car.

Good luck with the EVO :)

LOL mike, not big on the search button eh!

Depends on the fuel where you are to how much boost you can run. Here 1.2 bar is generally safe. The JDM car have a small fuel pump which needs upgrading.

I think 18psi is where fuel cut occours off the top of my head. If you guys are meant to do a "stock car" race, you could always fit a bleeder valve to up your boost. Its a cheap alternative to a boost controller and wouldnt be noticeable by your EVO friend, unless he was looking for it.

The others' advice is good, but I dont think it would qualify as a stock Supra vs stock EVO.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replys guys. I can get access to a boost controller, thats not a problem at all, but because my car is still stock, it might not be wise to run more than 13 or 14psi without any modifications.

So does that sound like a deal that could work? Just get a nice boost controller, bring it up from 9psi to about 13 psi for the race, then smoke him...?
