Wheel Speed Sensors

Recommended Posts

I am still having no joy with my Racelogic.

Can someone tell me where my speed sensors are on the front and back wheels, what they look like (a picture ?) and more importantly ... How to TEST THEM !!11!one! :D

I am questioning whether or not the front ones have been removed/disabled (when the brakes where upgraded) and it seems that at least one on the rears doesn't seem to be working so if I can visually identify them and then test them I can make some progress.

Anyone help ?

Cheers,

Shaun.

Hi, a visual inspection is easy, if you remove each wheel you should see a wire coming from the inner wheel arch area, normally clipped to the suspension that eventually attaches to a sensor mounted on the wheel hub. The sensor measures wheel rotation speed and is also used by the A.B.S.

If the wires are disconnected I would have thought there would be an appropriate fault code stored.

May I just gently *bump* this ?

Just wondering if anyone has figured out how to test the speed sensors?

If it's not possible I would just like to know so I may then consider my next (expensive) options.

Thanks,

Shaun.

This is my whole problem .. I can't see outputs on the RLTC or if there is it just gives mad spikes full screen, hence why I want to test them off line if there is such a method.

I'm 99.99% sure I wired then up OK as I checked, double checked etc before I committed any wiring.

I know the RLTC is OK as it's been tested by RL but strangely my ABS is working so I'm a bit confused as why the RLTC is not seeing a "proper" signal from all 4 sensors. I have considered it may be an earthing problem but, again, I have used the standard RL wiring loom onto the speed sense wires and just spliced into them and soldered on so I can't see how it can be.

Thanks anyways guys, if I make any progress I will update this thread as it may come in useful as far as the RLTC chronicles are concerned :)

hmmm interesting, maybe just to be sure you should post up what wiring connections you made for the wheel sensors - as there are different connections for different models.

if you jack the car up and spin a wheel individually with the engine off (but ignition on) you should be able to see one wheel speed indicator on RLTC at a time, worth a try

also, as mentioned if you had missing sensors you would have no abs and abs error codes + warning indicator on the dash, if you've not got that then you probably still have the sensors I would have thought.

did you program RLTC with the right number of teeth (48)?

I'd double check the wiring first tbh...

Louis - I have already had the car jacked up and spun the wheels, that's how i found out that at least one front and one rear appears not to give any output. Strange.

absxxxx - your nick says it all mate .. lol abs, xxxx it ! ;)

Martin - cheers mate, your service and after sales support is second to none. It's likely to cost me around £80 -100 round trip so I'm trying to put it off. BTW, IF the speed sensors are faulty/missing/sulking can they be done same day as two trips .... ouch!

oh and Matt, love the colour mate ;)

Cheers guys.
