It depends on how well sealed the container is.

Away from heat and light and sealed very well (a *full* jerry can for example) it can live for a few months, although the volatile elements will still separate and the octane number will be significantly lowered.

Best is to empty it in a half-full tank and add more fresh fuel on top so that it mixes well.

 

I usually have high octane fuel in sealed cans for 6-12months sitting in the shed, and if used undiluted it is detonation galore.
