:( hi all fitted this the other week and went to get it set up . But once i started to drive it hard it started detting badly! it was 28 deg outside :( so was it just to hot ? what knock levels are people using safc seeing ? might be worth checking before you drive hard in the heat.

Anyone no what would of caused this? my car is tt running 1.2 bar with fmic , welbro , ik24 , and fillter fitted in wing so get's lots of cold air. Going to fit inlet temp gauge today to see what sort of temp the engine is taking in . Any one no what a good temp is ? thanks

You don't want anything over 60 really. You'd best figure it out quick!

It won't be intake temp. What AFR reading do you get?

hi mate off scale on ame 10.2 . any idear what eles could be causeing it? i was running half 99 and optiamax would this not help ?

The knock readings from SAFCII are not worth the paper they're written on

the bloke who was setting it up had some det head phones on to :p . and the safc was showing big det in conjuction with what he could hear . So i just use it as a refrance now . any idea why it would be detting so much?

Ah, that's better:d

What sort of revs were you seeing this det?

How much boost was it registering at the time?

What sort of fuel have you got in there?

Was the ECU fresh from a reset?

It's important, because then it would be expected to hit detonation levels for a second or two. Second time round it's less likely and third time round it has learned the lesson.

I'd get the injectors cleaned, just in case there is one blocked. Better be safe. Try the STP Total System Cleaner for starters - cheap (well, £15) and it might do the trick.

you better find a dyno/tuner who know what they are doing AND PRONTO dont drive the car hard like this or you will be looking at a new engine, a catch tank ! will make no difference what so ever

shall i loose the catch tank then? ya im not driving it hard . its strange tho as its fine on the first turbo just dets on full boost !

Just a thought Matt, not having used the SAFC 2, but i presume it picks up one of the knock sensor feeds as it enters the ECU? are you sure you have the right wire? as a lot of those devices will register even if they are seeing a voltage rather than a frequency.

i run an safc and plumbed one of the knock sensors in i have never paid much attension to the reading as sometimes i get home and am getting a reading of 11 on idle !, however i do know what knock/det sounds like after being raised on 2 strokes, i used to get about 1/2 a second worth of knock on the 4000rpm change over point when i ran the stock twins, i never cured this and did not overly worry about it (it went away when i went single), your problem is knock at high rpm, make no mistake mate this is an engine killer YOU NEED TO GET IT SOUGHTED or you will pop the motor, dont try turning the hi-fi up this wont work either lol, you wont find any magic cures on this site you need to take the car to a pro

Yeah my car is fine now mate:) just waiting for EMU so i can get the fuelling spot on, i think the only way to be sure about det is to make yourself a set of det cans, and have a good listen, i do know that some of those devices are a bit over sensitive and do pick up other noise, especially valve noise, my Power FC used to see silly det readings on the S14 but i could never verify this with det cans, and it never went bang, but don't take any risks until you have a proper listen mate.
