Kittyclaws
Can anyone tell me the best wire detector to buy. I did buy one a fair while ago now which i took back as it would scream all the time, no matter how much i adjusted it. can't remember the make but it was of the little names and shaped like a D. Not looking to spend lots on a all singing all dancing one, just want to detect wires, Many thanks

tbourner
I was looking for one of these as well, but was told they're pointless as usually the wires just go horizontal or vertical to a socket.

In my last house, yes. but the house i'm in now are all dry lined so wire may snake a bit, plus. where i want to drill is near a multi switch for washing machine, tumbledryer etc and not far away is the controls for the boiler, inc another 3 pin socket, so in all, a nightmare lol
MR.B
We used a Black and Decker one briefly at work a few months back - it was bloody useless and just went off all the time for no reason. The boss took it back and he returned with a B & Q one - that worked 'alright' surprisingly - and it was cheap.
Rob
I was looking for one of these as well, but was told they're pointless as usually the wires just go horizontal or vertical to a socket. Would you bet your life on that though? I've seen a building chasing out a blockwork wall, he went vertical from the switch box hole for about 2 ft, then cut across at 45deg to a line above finished ceiling level. Ever since then, I've been wary of assuming where cables are. Try Machine Mart, they have everything and you can order it on-line.
