Carbon Bonnet Fitting

AMG

Recommended Posts

I have just fitted my new carbon fibre bonnet but the drivers side, just above the air filter, tends to stick up about half an inch away from the wing. The passenger side fits lovely but if you look from the divers side it looks like the bonnet is on the safety catch. If i put my hand on the bonnet above the air filter and push down very slightly it all lines up, but then springs back up when i move my hand. Has anyone got any advice or tips to make it fit better?

Also while i am here my standard Jap bonnet is now up for sale and will be going on ebay tommorow, Storm blue with a few stone chips on it. Includes washer jets but no safety catch.

Hi Adam, have you tried slaming the bonnet as opose to resting it on the latch and then pushing it down? As my stock bonnet used to do the same thing unless I slamed shut.

You could also try adjusting the rubber stops at each side of the bonnet by twisting them up or down at each side until you are happy with the fitment, although its a fine balance to get it right.

If all else fails you could try hood pins but that means drilling the Carbon Fibre which could be a bit hairy:eek: But it can be done with care.

Hope that helps.

The bonnet is fully shut, made sure i pushed it down properly. I have twisted the rubbers down and they are not even touching the bonnet anymore. I think the problem with the bonnet pins is that they won't hold the side near the wing down, they will hold the front down more than the side. Being carbon fibre will it sort itseld under heat or is there no hope?

I might be interested in the pins.

It may be because the bonnet may be twisted slightly, does anyone know if it is possible to 'straighten' it out slightly or if it will settle itself? I will try and get some pics tommorow to show the problem better

OK,

If you heat carbon up, you can give it a bit of the ole heave ho, however, I doubt if you would get enough of a heat up over enough area to do it nicely and uniformly.

As far as drilling goes, DONT BREATH IN THE DUST, it's carconagenic (sp??? look it's bloody bad for you)

Other than that drill away, it won't shatter, (If it does then you have every right to start asking questions from whoever you bought it from)

I've spent the last 5 years working with the stuff every day, drilling it and sanding it.

Hope that helps

Regards
