Sharpie
Oh and in mine and Johns case, there is now 2 more rare UK manuals on the planet:d Maybe but, in the wrong colour
Sharpie
buy a 6 speed instead. That's what CW suggested to me But, since mine is a DD and I spend 99% in town / town type traffic, I'm staying Auto
LeeT
Maybe but, in the wrong colour what colour do you think mine is then? Its certainly not storm blue
Jezz
Oh and in mine and Johns case, there is now 2 more rare UK manuals on the planet:d Bet i can come up with rarer. 6 speed breakers are'nt alot of money. £2k ish for the whole car is better than £1.5k for the bits, only to find you've got a few bits missing. Least with the whole car you know you have everything to hand.
paul mac
think i better stick up for the auto boys here as its manual all the way, i have a T61 on an auto with a BL box and 3200 hi-stall on order, i think it all depends on what you want from the car i do quite a bit of chilled cruising with a "spirited" blast every now and then, i dont do track days and i dont rag the arse off the car every time i get in it but when i floor it goes like fook, in a straight line i would happily put it up against any comparable manual (and own them:eyebrows: ) the one thing i would say about the Getrag is future proofing they seem to be able to hold any amount of bhp thrown at them
LeeT
the one thing i would say about the Getrag is future proofing they seem to be able to hold any amount of bhp thrown at them which was also one of the deciding factors for me. Dont get me wrong, as i said before the auto is a great box but after 3 years i just wanted a change.
Gamer
I have no problem with my 3800 stall. It is not revvy to me at all....
Gazboy
why not? i stuck with the auto for over a year and it was fine. The only reason i swapped is because i fancied something diffefrent. although now ive actually done it, i'd never go back:) Just seems completely at odds with the gearbox. I've passengered in two 6spd singles. One was a budget, and the other was a mega-money job. The former took an age to spool and always seemed like it was in the wrong gear, the idea of that coupled with an autobox singing from a different songsheet sounds horrendous to me. i-macca
After a conversation with my local Mr T parts guy the other day about the correct oil for the Getrag, he looked up to see the damage if a new box was needed.. Somewhere in the region of 6k apparently........

geoffvalenti
I also don't know what people views are on having a car that has a vin plate that denotes auto but yet is a manual. I'm just a fussy bar steward and like matching numbers, Non chopped and glued/ rewelded floors yadda yadda . Do people think this would be a problem for future values and re-sale?? It probably won't make a difference to the value in the near future, but if (when) the Supra attains classic status it could make the car worth (considerably) less Some US muscle cars are, these days, worth 10s of thousands of dollars more than the equivilant "clone" just because of one or 2 factory options as long as the cars are numbers matching. I'm not sure about my feelings on this subject, sometimes I think to hell with matching numbers, just build the car the way that you want it. Other times I drool over the right spec car, that came out of the factory that way TBH, unless you're thinking of keeping your Supra for another 20 years or so I don't think you're going to notice any difference in value. Pig
Im not planning to ever sell the supra, while it is still worth anything i will not be able to have anything faster. Its staying put

When the back end goes the last thing you'd want to do is change gear, just like the autobox will midway thru a correction sending you flying the other way. BURT
sorry john, think i frased that wrong.. what i meant was that when changing gear in a manual and tyhe back does loose traction you only have one hand on the wheel, as gear changes in a manual are that little more agressive than an auto.. the bonus pont to an auto is that you can silmply boot it withjout having to find the right gear first. JohnK
Ahh, yes I agree, but the flip side is it can change gear on you mid corner.

BURT
my advice to you john is to drive a singled supra with a manual box first before you take the plunge... at the end of it all it is only your decision that counts.. no point in getting others to spec your car for you as it could ultimately end in dissapointment..
