Sound of Knock

I don't think I want to hear my engine, I worry enough when putting it in the Garage at home and hearing all the noises bouncing off the garage wall.

Rich, I too have seen the pages but there's something I don't get. "Knock" or pre-ignition and/or detonation is not a condition that should be happening to a properly tuned engine.

 

But the guy takes a bog-stock car, attaches a spec analyser to the knock sensor and starts trying to identify what he calls "knock". I just don't understand what he is trying to do.

No idea Ash, I think he's trying to find out what sound is being picked up and interpreted as knock by the sensing equipment.

But it's a stock engine, and by definition there shouldn't be any knock.

 

He tries to isolate some kind of sound, saying, "That is knock". But knock IS precisely that... it sounds like someone has taken a hammer to the block and whacked it repeatedly 100 times a second.  

 

Knock is not something you have to debate about. If you ever come across it, wearing a set of sensitive headphones attached to an amplifier, it'll shake your teeth out.
