Matt B
All, I need some help with my newly fitted Apexi S-AFC2 with Knock sensor. As stated the version two comes with the Knock sensing function but I'm not really sure what to make of it? Should it measure any knocking at all? Or just when turbo's pull in ect? Currently It is in low figures when the engine is warma and ticking over, say around 10-15 this will normally drop a little when you push on the gas pedal. But when the turbo's come on-line it goes mad and on full boost it can hit 40+, I'm not sure how good/bad this is? Anyone else got one of these I can compare mine to. Any advice is greatly recieved. Cheers
Adam W
Apexi don't give you any numbers to indicate what might be "good" or "bad" and it says somewhere in the manual that "due to limitations the knock display may go down as the engine knock goes up". Which means it's a totally bollocks gimmick and take no notice of it Right up there with the £50 Autometer AFR gauges
Gaz Walker
On a skyline anything over 60 is hairy and anything over 90/100 means bye bye pistons. Thats normally on a Apexi Power FC... Gaz.
Matt B
Cheers guys. I'll try to ignore it then... The Knock sensor is there on the car anyway right? So how does the Supra tell you about knocking without a S-AFC?
Adam W
The factory ECU can make a proper assessment of the signal from the knock sensors and automatically adjusts the timing to suit. Apparently it has some processing routine to make sense of the signal rather than the SAFC which is pretty crude.
Matt B
So, have I actually done more harm by having the sensor connection moved from the ECU to the S-AFC2?? Not good:(
Adam W
You should have just spliced into the connection for the SAFC feed, NOT chopped it and rewired it to the SAFC. The ECU will throw up an error code if it loses the signal from one of the knock sensors though.
Matt B
Cool, Cool, that's probably what was done. I did not fit it so as it was done by the Pro's I'm sure all is okay. Cheers for the info guys.
