smithn05
I have noticed recently that my manual TT's fast idle, when cold, seems a bit higher than it used to do (1400-1600 rpm immediately after starting). Also occasionally the rpm seems high when warm (1200 ish), although more often than not its 650 as it should be. I remember it used to be very well controlled from cold through to hot with and without a/c on, with rpm never over 1000. I have had the car for about 6 years now and done around 100k in it (136k in total on the clock), I guess it started happening about 20k ago. Otherwise it drives fine, anything to worry about? Or ideas?
Steve W
The 1400-1600 is fairly NORMAL ! at least it IS on our N/A, and it WAS on my old TT. It's Toyota's way of getting the engine to warm up ASAP. I'd be thinking more "why DIDN'T it USED to do it ?" Not so sure of the 1200 warm idle, as you say only usually does that if the A/C is on and it's cycling the pump. (having said that, the N/A normally idles at ~700/800 but occasionally seems to do a 1000 for no apparent reason ???) FatS.

Steve W
mmmmm... dunno mate ! ! Sorry, seriously, not sure. On the TT i had a problem where the COLD idle was low and it turned out to be a piece of fibre washer caught in the IACV (don't know HOW it ever got in there ! !) but the low idle was also quite rough. Took the bit out and cleaned the IACV and presto, back to normal 1600.....1300.....1000...................700. I'm a tad concerned about our N/A cos i'd say the COLD idle is more like 1800-2000 and THAT feels a little TOO high (also SOUNDS too high with the NUR on ! ! ! ! ) I just haven't got round to looking at the IACV........LAZY ! !
