kosmic
Yesterday my pc crashed and after a reboot i went through the set up screen and use last good configuration and all i get is a blue screen saying c0000218 Registry file failure blah blah cannot load the hive \systemroot\system32\config\software then it begins a dump of physical memeory and just reboots over and over again. Ive tried running in safe mode and pressing F8 whilst rebooting and trying everything but it just keeps going to that darn blue screen and rebooting over and over again. Searched on google and most have used the Xp recovery console. When i load the xp Cd it wont boot from it no matter what i try, Help?? Im a complete numpty with pc's

paul gtir
its sometimes best to whipe and clean it if you save all the files you want on to a back up disk then whipe it and start again it takes a few houres but you will notice the difrence myn had loads of shit on it and my brother who is a computer technichan just did that and now works fine
MrRalphMan
Dude, Doesn't sound great, but you need to boot from the CD to try to run the system repair tool. When you say it doesn't boot from the CD, normally it will ask you to hit the any key as it boots, do you get this message? Did it boot from CD before? If not, then you'll need to get into your BIOS and alter the boot sequence to boot from CD before HD. Depending on how you were downloading your 'movies', this could have let a virus run wild. Are you running anti-spyware/realtime virus scanning software? Hope this helps.. Paul.

Still I'm sure that we all perform backups eh!!!

MrRalphMan
Er... the recovery console or repair option should be part of the install CD. Boot from that and it'll ask you some questions. Choose the existing partition, being v v v careful not to say format or install and use the repair/recover option. It should then replace it's core files and your windows with a bit of luck will be up and working. Although I'd never trust it again after that.. Easier to repartition, save the data you want and blitz the system partition.

edd_t
where did u buy the PC? often if its from places like PC World they will set up an annoying password, so that you have to take it back to them and pay for it to be repaired. have you tried 'password' or just leaving it blank? MrRalphMan
You should have an option of a auto repair option, you are getting to the recovery console.. Bugger if I know how to repair it from there though..
MrRalphMan
The auto repair option is only available for Windows XP Pro, not the home version. Which one do you have? Take a look here for some useful advice.
