GazzaGSi
Carrying on from this thread: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=63752 I fitted a set of new plugs today - just plugs as my lead set hadn't turned up. All plugs seemed reasonable in cylinders 1 - 5. Removed the final one - number 6 and came across this (see pic) Fitted the new plugs and it starts and runs fine but how come number 6 cylinder spark plug was covered in oil? It isnt thick or sticky, just normal. Will strip it down again tomorrow and do a compression test. Pic:
Soonto_HAS_soop
Looks more like it has been puddled in the plug hole rather than from the cylinder.

michael
Probably nothing a new gasket can't fix - not ideal but probably not as bad as you think
Soonto_HAS_soop
Just double checked the picture and seen how clean the porcelain(?) part of the plug is, it is too clean to of been from the cylinder. Probably a leak around your cam covers in that area has fed some oil down the plug hole and collected.
dangerous brain
Thats getting into the spark plug hole from the top. My omega's both leaked oil out of the cam covers and filled the plug wells up all the time. Didn't cause any problems other than the car reaking of oil all the time. Jake
(*Makes note of Gaz's chassis number for future cloning project* ) How big is that plug gap? Looks huge!
GazzaGSi
All new plugs were gapped today at 1.1mm which is in the plug faqs. My rocker is leaking towards the back of the engine (noticeable on the side of the engine) which could explain the oil possibly? I think this is the reason behind my problem due to the oil build up so the plug wasnt firing correctly. Seems to be running fine now though. Headgasket is going to be done too in 2 weeks when it goes in for the NA/T conversion. Fingers crossed (And no cloning lol!)
dangerous brain
Without a doubt then its the cam cover gasket nowt to worry about really. If you are really worried replace that lead.
Prof. Monkey
Gaz, gaskets are £8.00 each so a cheap fix, mine were fooked, when I replaced the cam covers!
GazzaGSi
Thanks for your help/opinions guys. And to be honest, Im really pleased with myself that I have fixed it and had the courage to do it. Looked quite daunting at first with how the N/A engine is with the throttle etc going over the top of the engine and having to remove it and the hoses etc. All happy again :D
Prof. Monkey
Gaz, get an intake plenum like mine then no more plug hassles! Just other ones instead!
GazzaGSi
I do like your intake idea, not seen it before. Just read your post about top end power. I would help if I could but have no idea! Good luck in sorting it bud, Gaz

Guest gzaerojon
Looks more like it has been puddled in the plug hole rather than from the cylinder. i think you might be reading too much into it, original fault sounds like plugs (now fixed) check you rocker cover gasket for any oil leaks, could be leaking and running into the plug hole Edit: just read all other posts... i sound like a parrot
