Speedo correct?

Guru

Recommended Posts

Ok well I have had a km conversion but not sure how good it really is. I have a Road Angel and a TomTom which can both monitor speed. Now when my clock is saying 40 everything reads the same, but, as soon as I get to say 80 the others read like 76mph. Obviously this is only noticable in higher speeds.

It sounds like I am slightly out but am not sure how accurate the RA and TT really are? Any thoughts? :search:

Sat Nav is more accurate than your speedo at constant speeds. So if you are going at 80 and staying at 80, and your speedo reads 76, your sat nav will be correct.

I am not sure what the police cameras go by but I know they used to calculate error values of speedos at 10% +2 mph, so when your speedo says 80 you can actually be doing +/- 9mph, if that is still how they work (I found that out about 10 years ago) 76 is a reading within the error equation so you would be fine.

I just read that back......I sound like a geek!

Mine over-reads like this too. I've got so used to the "comfort zone" when approaching speed cameras that I don't really fancy changing it :p

i think THAT's obviously the idea behind the 'optimistic' bit......

if you THINK you're doing 100 when you're only doin' ~90, then...............

What can you do then cus mine massively over-reads even at lower speeds. Can change in wheel size affect mph readings?

Thor do an adjustable DSC while you can use to make it spot on. Yup, changing the wheel size will adjust the reading of the speedo, the bigger the rolling radius the more the speedo will under-read I believe.
