Ulrik
Hello, I just bought a "Greddy Aluminium Radiator Pipe". And in order to change the pipe, i would need to drain some "coolant" right ? Because it runs in the original pipe.... If i would just losen it, it would come all over the car... And the colour of the coolant at the momment, is more brownish then red. Then i might just drain all of it, and change the coolant wile im on it. So how much "Toyota For Life Red Coolant" and how much "destilated" water should i buy ? Any tips ? supRo
Taken from Alexs guide. For Life comes redy mixed so you don't use distilled water. Coolant Stock = Toyota 4Life Red Capacity ~9L I recommend you stick with Toyota Coolant. Interval = 30,000miles This should help you with a coolant change. http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/coolant_flush/index.html NB: 4Life changes colour as it get older, when it starts to turn a more browny red compared to it's vibrant red when new then it needs to be changed. Someone read it... I should add to it about it being premixed. If your coolant is anything less that bright red it needs to be changed completely....delaying will only harm the radiator and the heater matrix.. Not it will not get rid of everything, we do this alot (flush) and it takes quite a while due to teh Heater matrix usually spewing corrosion. Hmm Okey, just talked to a friend of mine that also have a Supra. Got told that i dont need to drain it all.... Just drain as much as needed to replace the pipe, and put on the new Greddy one... And then buy some Mixed Toyota Red and fill up with.... Told me the browish colour came from a mix of Toyota red and green. Hope its true
Tricky-Ricky
So what is the difference between the Toyota red coolant and a decent antifreeze with corrosion inhibitor? i suspect they would be pretty similar apart from the color.

Alex
So what is the difference between the Toyota red coolant and a decent antifreeze with corrosion inhibitor? i suspect they would be pretty similar apart from the color. 1. It's a know quantity - using the right ingredients. 2. It changes colour when it goes off 3. It's less hassle as it's ready to go. I personally would flush though with a garden hose as I found it got out more crap that way.

OK sounds fine, if there is a local Toyota dealer near me, i would normally flush with a hose, but there's a hosepipe ban in my area, and if the neighbour's spot me, i'll be looking at a fine:rolleyes:

JohnA
..Any tips ? It's a good idea to totally drain the coolant once a year. According to the manufacturer every two years, but you don't know if this has been adhered to in the past. Not worth risking corroded radiator/matrix/passages. Ark
My 2p - if you don't have enough coolant, the ECU controlled choke will misbehave, giving a really nasty cold idle.
