GetawayDriver
i have a single decat pipe and wanted to remove both. i've had a look up the 1st cat which is still in place. can i drill the centre of the cat our leaving the case? anyone tried this before? JohnA
Not sure about the supra, but in other makes gutting the cat may lead to a cheap 'tin' noise effect. I'd keep the cat for future MOTs and swap it for a proper decat pipe.
GetawayDriver
this was my initial thought too, but after seeing one of these single 1cat decat pipes, it's exactly the same as a cat, but empty. thats what gave me the idea to gut mine. the best option would be a double decat, but for now, i think i may gut it and see how it sounds. JohnA
Is the thickness of the metal similar though? My front decat is much thicker than the skin of the OEM cat.
GetawayDriver
well my front cat allready rattles so i have nothing to loose. i could try welding some seams on to it to shut it up.
JohnA
If it rattles then it may be kaput, melted inside even. Gut it!
GetawayDriver
it's not melted, i had a look up there. whoo hoo.... JohnA says gut it - the drill is already out!
uk-rich
if its any help, i did the drill out thing, makes it a bit boomy, but so does fitting a first cat bypass !
JohnA
well if it rattles it's not gonna be much use for an MOT and you can't leave it like that anyway, unless you're getting married soon:D http://www.max-boost.co.uk/stuff/Just_Married.jpg
