Kopite
more pickin ya brains time! 1. right, i know that the Jap car has ceramic turbos rather than steel like the Brit car, and that the Jap car also has 40 less BHP. How is the Jap car limited? i know that it has to be coz of regulations so is it just the diff in the turbo materials that cause this diff? how else are the horses kept down? 2. are there any other considerable performance diffs apart from the engine and the smaller brakes on the Jap? 3. Does anyone have any decent pics of the 2 contrasting interiors? the UK came with full leather didnt it and the Jap with half leather, any other diffs? 4. what sort of diff in insurance would there be between say a 97 UK and a 97 Jap, identical cars in terms of mileage etc! What im tryin to decide is that if i never find a good UK 6spd whether or not its a biggie to go with a Jap 6Spd. Hopefully the insurance wont be a git either tho. Soz for all the Qs! On point no.1 - the Jap car does not have 40 less BHP. Power figures in reality for JDM and UK cars are almost identical. Officially the JDM has 280BHP, unofficially it has 323BHP - this is what my bog standard GZ produced on the dyno not long after I imported it. It's certainly no biggy going for the JDM, in fact it's the quicker car out of the box (dons flameproof suit) due to the faster spooling ceramic turbo's. The only problem may be insurance, you need to shop around on the phone to get a decent import quote - online quotes are useless.
Kopite
looks like it will be a Jap 6spd if what the other board lads have said about the insurance bein very similar is true! ta for the info
Patrick_Devlin
Insurance is the killer. You'll be looking at maybe 30% more for a J Spec unforunately but shop around, prices do differ. There are loads of threads on this on here, one recently, and you'll find the contact details of the best insurars here also.

Try Direct Line. When I last renewed mine the price was the same for Jap and UK cars BTW - last UK cars were made in 96.

If im main driver on my golf and buy a Jspec supra and cant get insured, will i be able to drive it for a few months under TP? or if youre the registered owner do u HAVE to have fully comp insurance on it? Patrick_Devlin
I think you can be main driver on several cars, but your NCB will only cover one car (thats what I've been told before!).
Steve W2
Nice try, the car you are driving also has to be insured by somebody, if not you. I tried that a few years ago:D
