Voo51
Hi just bought an n70 of ebay, the lady assued me it was unlocked to all networks. i asked her if she had tryed many different sim cards in it- she said yes. I asked her if it worked- she said yes. I asked her if it had all the bits and bobs with it including the box - she said yes. I recieve the n70 in its box, all the bits and bobs are there. i input my sim card- sim card not valid. How angry am i!!!! I then text her enquiring about the sim cards she tested - she replies ' yes i tryed many different vodafone sim cards in it, they all worked so it must be unlocked' --- SILLY SILLY LADY! i have now got to wait for her to get through to vodafone to enquire on whether they can unlock it. Does anyone know what Vodafone are like with unlocking mobiles? - could i just by a pay as you go sim card and ring up and get it unlocked or would i have to have been a customer for so long? Or, does anyone know of anywhere that unlocks these new 3g mobiles?!? as vodafone really are kak on the free texts - sorry if ur with them! Clarkey
I doubt very much .. you'll be able to unlock a Series 60/90 Symbian phone. The lock in the phone isn't in the phone software or the Symbian OS. It's in the phone's hardware itself. Kind of like a BIOS. The only sure way of unlocking that phone if you know someone who you're very friendly with at Nokia MP (Mobile Phones) to unlock it for you. When I say very friendly - it's because it's a sackable offense @ Nokia to unlock a non-prototype phones (commerical) S60 & S90.
dangerous brain
I'd seen and asked on a forum if the N70 can be unlocked and they pointed me in the direction of a program that could do it for ya. I assume these phones ship out of the factory and a firmware patch is applied afterwards to lock the things to a network.
GazzaGSi
I got my old 3g phone unlocked last summer. Only place I found near to me was a shop ion mansfield called...the unlock shop. Still got their card if you want the number...?
Clarkey
I assume these phones ship out of the factory and a firmware patch is applied afterwards to lock the things to a network. Pretty much yes. The lock is put after manufacturing .. requested by the operators. I'd be interested if that program works - because from I've been told by the R&D guys at Nokia you need the specific R&D hardware to even address the phone hardware. Tho - I wouldn't be suprised if the Nokia R&D hardware was found floating about in some shops.

Voo51
Voo51, Can you keep this thread updated as to how you get on unlocking the phone please? hi yes of course. The lady who sold it me has contacted vodafone and the unlocking code is apparently on its way. However, i then wonder if certain services will become restricted when used on different networks other than Vodafone. but as soon as i recieve the code and try it i will tell you what happens. Gassagsi- yes please could i have the number for that unlocking place just incase this doesnt work- did it cost alot and was it done by code, cable or to be sent away? Whitesupraboy2
if it has a vodaphone live icon on the screen i cant seem to get rid of it off my nokia,im guessing ill need a firmware change. As at first anything web related tried to go through vodaphone live but you can setup all the web access / email / voicemail stuff so u will have all functions avaliable. 02 who im with just sends a txt to phone with the settings if u go on their website and that was it, job done. Supra-Dupra
is it possible to unlock a phone (nokia 6600) which has been locked by the service provider as it was reported missing? That is not normally a code, that is a blacklisted phone, and you can be prosecuted if caught with it. U need to get a new Imei if its blacklisted and thats also illegal unless done through nokia, motorola etc !
Clarkey
U need to get a new Imei! Very difficult! At work all IMEI's are kept under very tight lock & key. Very few people have access to them.

Nice one mate. Interesting - about the code. I wonder if that "unlock" is subject to phones from Vodafone or another other operator. Or possibily - the early phones off the production line .. have a h/w bug in them. I only thought of it - because the 6630 project went through - a half dozen software patches .. to fix hardware bugs ... even after launch. Voo51
well, when i look at the info on the phone it says it was created on 07/2005 if thats any help? No glitches as yet, i can txt, mms, surf the web but i cant seem to get signal for 3g but neither can my friend who is also on o2 and his mobile was a standard o2 mobile. So i feel it is the o2 3g service which is crap round here, i can still use my vodafone sim card tho if i really need to video call.
