I wonder if anyone can help, everytime i startup the car and move the steering wheel theres a noise from the power steering, it's a very loud grinding noise, not your regular PS noise, do you think it needs topping up or does something seem not right?

Iv'e checked the fluid in it and it's just below the cold indicator when not running.

Also on the engine it's self next to the oil filter (where 2JZ) is marked on it, theres a bit of oil, anyone know what this problem is?

Problems problems problems............ :flame Dev

Cheers mate, iv'e worked out that the oil is from when the old oil filter was the wrong type when i bought the car and was leaking, iv'e cleaned it up and it's fine. It's just the power steering fluid that needs topped up i think.

How would i drain out all the fluid and whats the best stuff to top it up with?

Would this cause a rattling aswell, as when i was at the lights and moved the wheel there was a wierd rattling noise. Must be something to do with the PS

Cheers

What? :conf: Erm what oil filter, in conjunction with the PS fluid? ATF DextronII fluid is the apprpriate fluid.

Is there anything wrong with the PS fluid you have? Otherwise open the cap and pour the cold fill level is marked

no idea doubt it...

Put in new fluid and take it for a drive round some tight turns - try some three point turns.

But remember NEVER TURN THE WHEEL WITHOUT MOVING THE CAR EITHER BACKWARDS OR FORWARDS - OR WITH THE FRONT WHEELS JACKED UP OFF OF THE GROUND.

Cheers guys, i'll try that tomorrow. If the problem is still there then i'll drop it off at the garage.

It's up for sale, so needs to be perfect or i wouldn't sell it on.

Someones gonna get a very good, looked after car when i sell it on......the amount of new bits thats went on it!!!!!

If the power steering oil is all brown and mucky, you might want to change it.

I did it last week, using an old shower hose, which seemed to leak at every link, spilling oil all over my drive and garage door.

Get a proper hose, and disconnect the hose that goes onto the PS tank and put that into the "drain" hose.

Start engine, and top up with clean fluid until the stuff coming out the end of the hose is clean. You might need two litres.

Cover everything you can with towels sheets etc.
