Best launch in an auto?

Sub_Culture

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I think the TT accelerates great, but the initial pick up seems really unresponsive. Is this because I have an auto? How does everyone do it?

Currently, I put the car in drive, keep the brake held down with my left foot so the right is ready to nail the throttle when I need to go. Is there a better way of doing this? Should I give it some revs before letting go of the brake?

Please advise if you can!

Get a high stall torque converter!

This allows the revs to build up higher before the gearbox "bites" so to speak, thus creating boost off the line!

Your stock torque converter stall is set at around 2650rpm as far as i remember.

Brake boosting is OK but i wouldn't risk frying my gearbox doing it.

You may want to get an extra Tranny cooler and fan to keep the gearbox temps down as High stall = Higher auto fluid temps!

Hope this helps

footbrake, build revs to 2kish and then let go of the brake quickly and foot to the floor, right down engaging kickdown and thats a good launch.

Not advisable to do this longer than 5 odd seconds as it can fry the gearbox

Dont think we've heard of many autos blowing up on the strip tho. Most autos on here that have gone bang have been down to people attempting burnouts or doing doughnuts in their autos :)

BTW, how often do you change your autobox fluid james?

I find it faster taking off in manual mode, starting in L !? Have nt really tried it that much tho !

When your taking off in the manual mode, do you keep your right foot nailed to the floor? I find it a real difficult habbit to do this after driving a manual for so many years!

Yes but gotta becareful, dont over do it to much as its still reving as u change ! I love this car in manual mode, more than I prefer a manual car cos of the lazy left leg, personally i drive it in manual mode 80% of the time, mostly in gear 2 with (overdrive off) as it sounds lovely here ! Anyone explain the whole overdrive idea to me?

My impression from driving with it, is best described as a capactior effect, as it charges up, then when ready discharges at certain revs and blows you away ! LOL

But is it actually any faster at top speeds than when its off, personally I dont think or find it is !!??

it turns the gear box into a 3 speed instead of 4 speed. Therefore you will find it wouldnt let you go above about 134!

Flat- You enjoy your dead leg while us lazy so and so's can relax in our autos ;)
