Paul Laing
Is the release bearing in a clutch also called a throw out bearing? Just iv'e recently bought a new clutch which has come with plate, cover and release bearing. But on supraforums they go on about throw out bearings. Just wanna know if these are the same thing really. Cheers, Paul
400BHP
Never heard that reference to a release bearing before, heard it called a thrust bearing or a thrust race but thats about all.
Digsy
If its the bit I'm thinking of (the bearing that runs on the input shaft and applies pressure to the clutch spring plate to release the clutch) then I've always referred to them as the release bearing. Not heard of the term "throw out bearing" before.

Digsy
Its official. Throw-out bearing / clutch release bearing. They are the same thing. Do an advanced Yahoo! search on the phrase "throw out bearing".
