Changing the PS Pump, please help?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to swap my PS Pump, but I can't remove the big brass coloured banjo, without the darker coloured nut turning as well.

I can get a 22mm socket on the banjo nut, with a breaker bar, but the metal retainer has bent. There is little room for a spanner on the other nut (24mm i think).

Am I doing something wrong, is it a reverse thread or summat?

If your spanner (24mm) is too thick to fit into the gap between the banjo and the pump itself, take it to a local engineering shop who can put it on a mill and grind it down a bit (the thickness) so it will fit the nut. You will then be able to hold this nut (!) as you undo the banjo union :)

I had a similar problem when trying to get my oil pump off, I used a hammer to get the metal retainer tab back into place, then got a medium breaker bar and whacked it with a club hammer to jerk the bolt loose. If you try and use a long bar and slowly wind the nut undone you just bend the tab every time; an impact wrench would get it off easy, thats the sort of action you need to replicate.

Tis done, I used a alu box section over the 24mm spanner, and a breaker bar on the 22mm socket, and snapped the two undone.

The PS still feels a bit bumpy/lumpy though. The new fluid was pink/reddish, but has now gone brown, do I need to flush it all out again, and how much should the system take, as I only put 3/4 litre in.
