Hi people,

Can anyone tell me how to get my xbox working on the internet. Just got a BT broadband setup with their free wireless router that i thought i could just plug in and use, but it seems i need an xbox live account or something.

I'm confused!

OK, just sussed out i need to buy an xbox starter kit for £40, is this really the case?

If you have an xbox 1, not 360 (I dont own one) you can plug a cat 5 network cable straight into the back of the xbox (from router) and away you go. :D However wireless you will need a dlink access point kit/ or similar/ microsoft do a version, which is a royal pita to set-up for long term use, and have a habit of dying. The 360 is pre set to be wireless so no external feed needed :) You can't actually surf on the xbox 1 unless you load either an os on it or via xbmc/ with a chip.

Oh yea you will also need an xbox live account unless you find *ahem* a way to play on non microsoft game servers :p

Guys,

I have an xbox 1 and the game i was trying to play last night was Forza. I went to the multiplayer section in the game and chose to create an account for xbox live like it asked me to. The xbox rebooted and then ran me through some prompts asking what billing region i was in and to setup a gamertag name, which i did, then it asked me to enter a subscription code? i guess this is what you get when you buy the starter kit is it?

Been searching the web an it seems you generally have to buy the starter kit along with a game, which i dont want for about £30-£40. I've got a free router which came from BT, it was option 3 from the following link:

http://www.bt.com/broadband/bb_info.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0271215064.1134551691@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccdaddghigmglicflgcefkdffndfkl.0&obsNoSee=Y&vStore=1128&obsPage=/index.jsp&obsType=LINK&obsOID=99101

I really thought i would just be able to plug it in via the cat 5 and play away.

SteveR, when you say enter the starter disk and it leads you through everything, is that the disk that comes with the starter kit? I guess bascily i'm asking, do i have to buy this kit, or is there a way around it?

Thanks

Christian

Yeah for Xbox '1' I think you have to have the starter pack (with starter disk that leads you through creating an account and probably installs some stuff onto your machine, too). You'll need to give it credit card details too, even if you never buy anything and don't use it to renew you still have to enter credit card details :|

My gamertag is "mk4SupraMan" - add me as a 'friend' when you get set up and I'll organise some regular races if people are up for it :)

There are daily events really, but you can just stick whatever game you want in there and see who's online. I'm playing a lot of PGR2 at the moment. Forgotten how good it was! Forza is cool too, but too many other players have highly set up cars - I just want to race...can't be bothered with chassis tuning, so I always get cained!

PS my tag is 'SleepyArk'
