Apparently a flat rate of income tax set at about 43% would eliminate the need for ANY other taxes - VAT, fuel tax, the lot. Much much easier to administer too I should think!

But wouldnt that mean that only employed people would be paying any form of tax? Not exactly much incentive for certain lazy twa*s to find work then eh? And how would the lowest paid fare?

I never said it was a _good_ idea, merely that that's how it could be worked out. Remember that with no further taxes, shelf prices of goods would be lower, less requirement for beurocratic layers eg VAT inspection (means further lowered costs).

OK so only employed people would pay tax, but lets face it, the unemployed are only paying tax with money that isn't theirs anyway. I'm assuming of course that you mean the unemployed with no resources (savings, inheritance etc).

I approve simply because I disapprove of the stealth taxation in this country. One tax may not fit all, but that's not a good reason for having dozens of taxes.
