Roy
guys - i've encountered a new, strange and slightly worrying problem (at least i hope not). the parking spot in the house is slightly inclined to the front and i park nose in. whenever i put the car into reverse when i leave in the morning, there seems to be a couple of clanking noises as the gear engages. i know the auto box is a bit rough but i haven't heard these noises before. anybody know what this is ? thanks
Simon
What you may be hearing is the result of slack in the uj's.
Roy
thanks simon. how bad is this to fix if it is that ?
Simon
Roy, firstly it's just a suggestion, I used to get this on my old Mk1 Celica. If it is then worst case scenario is new propshaft(s), best case is new joints within the UJ's themselves (if that makes sense). Have absoultely no idea what the costs are. An easy(ish) way to check would be to get it up on ramps and turn the prop by hand (handbrake on) you should then spot if theres any slack in the joints.
