Fitting of front and rear discs/pads

Recommended Posts

Search button reveals that a few on here have carried out this task themselves.

I doubt I would be up to it though so the question is can I entrust this to a local mechanic or do I wait until Leon is less busy (not really an option given squealing noises coming from brakes:eek: )

My other option is the Toyota dealer although they can't fit me in until the 29th. I'm also guessing this would be the most expensive route.

What would people on here do in this instance?

To change the disks and pads is not the most difficult thing to do.

The hardest parts are the rears with the handbrake shoes inside and then probably bleeding the brakes. Can be an easy DIY job, or an even easier local garage job. It all depends on the time to get the parts in!! They tend not be "off the shelf items".

I refuse to take my car to a garage though, because I don't like the idea of the work completed test drive!! Lucky I have a mechanic in the family!!

I have just done my fronts, Got the parts next day from toyota.

The fronts really are easy to do, just make sure you have got a long bar to undo the caliper mounting bolts.

The step by step instructions (its so simple you probably wont need them) are on mkiv.com somewhere.

unless yr really clueless with spanners (like a girl sort of :) ) then i'd do it myself, its easy. just follow the instructions and work methodically. make sure u use the torque specs and everything will b cool. u will need a dial guage to check the runout, a local garage probably wont do this :(

a mate will b handy for doing the beeding and making cups of tea.

I'm actually much worse than a girl when it comes to spanners!

I also cry if I get my hands dirty or cut myself:)

Nevertheless I'm tempted to have a go.

Can't find the instructions on mkiv.com though, can anyone post a link?
