Conrad
Anybody know approx which speed the auto box changes whilst in D? For eg. from 1st to 2nd @ 10mph - from 2nd to 3rd @ 30mph etc etc. And does O/D limit you to third at all speeds? It's just sometimes I floor it at say 30 - 40mph and there's no instant kick - just a fairly smooth but quick build up of speed. I'm worried there's something wrong. I was wondering if maybe I'm in 4th and it's only kicking down to third???
Alex
It totally depends on what you do with your right foot as to what the gearbox does...if you floor it at 30mph I'd expect it to be in 2nd.
Conrad
I meant is there any standard approx figures at what gear the auto should be in at any given speed. I was trying to determine what gear my auto is in whilst cruising at about 40mph with O/D turned on.
mikeyb10supra
do you mean speed brackets? ie what the maximum each gear is capable off?? I imagine at 40 with od off you will be in 3rd
Conrad
do you mean speed brackets? ie what the maximum each gear is capable off?? Think so, don't think I'm explaining myself very well. Obviously the more revs the longer it'll stay in that gear. I think I confused matters by mentioning my problem. I just meant if driven sensibly at what speed would it change to the next gear. For eg, when does 2nd change to 3rd? and when does 3rd change to 4th? Or is this impossible to put a speed on each gear change?
mikeyb10supra
I think the ECU decides when to change gear so its impossible to tell but could be wrong....Alex??? if driven sensibily, I expect you to be in 4th by the time you hit
JohnA
The ECU decides on several factors. Mainly revs, throttle angle and rate of throttle change
suprasport
i know what you are asking but there must be a lot of factors involved as sometimes at same speed when i floor it the gears will kick down and sometimes not under roughly the same circumstances, have a play on a straight road and see if you can work it out, would be interesting to know, mine is off road at mo so cant test it
_Rob_
The ECU decides on several factors. Mainly revs, throttle angle and rate of throttle change Yeah that ^^^^^ ive found that once i get to about 2500rpm, if i lift off itll change up. generally if im just crawling, ill be in 2nd at about 10mph, 3rd about 20mph through to about 35mph, then 4th. like i said though, i lift off and it changes so if i just kept the right foot as it was i think itd take a little longer. best bet is to just count the gears when your driving... JohnA
gearoil temp is also a factor, vehicle speed as well. I've got the workings of the TT's A340E box on a document, but it's messy. Who cares, just stick it in 'drive' and off ya go!

Guest kennyf
Not meaning to hijack but if the ECU controls gear change is this able to be controlled using the e-manage blue?

Sharpie
I thought that the top of 3rd was something like 120mph as Dude was reaching this before the end of the 1/4 mile and didn't want to move into 4th gear ????? I could be wrong
