suprasport
hi, need your help please. sorry bit of a long winded one. given car full service including fuel filter, and timing belt, iridium plugs, also double de-cat, started it up friday sounded great, everything fine, after about five minutes accelerated and it cut out, would start back up and still idled good, but cut out as soon as i touched accelator, put this down to air flow meter not being attached so left it feeling quit good today same problems after fitting air flow meter, took plugs out and they were completely coked up (crap pic but you get the jist) checked spark was not impressed but was hard to tell as it was being eratic turning over, good spark from ht lead though, fuel is fine put old plugs back in after five minutes of brief start and failing to start they were coked up just as bad, done fault code but nothing stored. could it be the two 02 sensors in manifold, have disconnected temp sensor that was on second cat. did get it start at last attempt and left it to idle very smooth again but cut out on its own after 3 minutes pretty certain its mixture or bad spark but can't think of anything else to try now :help:
Robert
have you tried resetting the ecu?
suprasport
yes plenty of times, but thanks anyway:)
Robert
try cleaning the MAF with electrical contact cleaner, that solved my problems with bad idle and cutting out when warm
suprasport
will give it a try, also the o2 sensors were coked up bad, and they have been hanging around in the engine bay while it was cleaned and sprayed, could this effect it? absz
might sound stupid but could it be a blockage in the exhaust system ? from when it was dismantled.
Robert
yeah, if they have been exposed to a dusty/dirty environment then they should be cleaned aswell, i remember alex telling me to clean them in lemon juice then rinse off with brake cleaner. suprasport
might sound stupid but could it be a blockage in the exhaust system ? from when it was dismantled. well if it is stupid then i am as well cos that was my first thought as it also has backfired a few times which i forgot to mention but removed exhaust from de-cat and still the same. suprasport
yeah, if they have been exposed to a dusty/dirty environment then they should be cleaned aswell, i remember alex telling me to soak them in lemon juice then rinse off with brake cleaner. just read that one, but would that effect carbon build up? Robert
doubt it would effect carbon build up but its worth a try anyways, i would put it down to the MAF though. Although saying that im not the most technically minded person on the forum.
suprasport
am i right in thinking that there are two o2 sensors (lambda) one on each exhaust manifold and the third probe is temp sensor that can be done away with ?? if so does the temp still have to be connected as i have taken it out from the wiring loom (plug)
Robert
no the temp sensor doesnt have to be connected, it is only there to measure the temperature inside the CATs but seen as you have decatted, that sensor is no longer needed, you could have just tied it out the way,not sure what effect removing it from the loom has if any. Robert
also as you have a N/A im sure i read somewhere that you have two o2 sensors but cant be sure as i have a TT with only one 02 sensor.
suprasport
from what i am reading it is sounding like the o2 sensors are at fault, will def give them a clean tomorrow and see what happens, is there any way of checking them before i rush out and buy new ones should the cleaning not work? thanks for your help mate:yes:
suprasport
maf, o2, or ?
Robert
hmmm not sure if you have no luck with the maf or 02 sensors then you will need to take to to a garage who deal with supras. Apart from checking the ox1 pin with a volt meter not sure how else you can check if they are working or if your running too rich or whatever. Make sure you make a note of the fluctuation (sp?) in voltage (warm idle) before and after you clean them, that might give you an idea if they were to blame or not.
