Alex
BKR7E's should be gapped to 0.8 or 30thou Iridiums (HKS/DENSO/Blitz etc) cannot be regapped.
Geezabloke
Fitted NGK's gapped down to around 30 thou. On test it misfired as soon as on boost...... Played around and eventually replaced with another set pregapped to 1.0mm On test no misfire and performed as desired....... Ive had them in and out so much tonight, i can now change them in 15mins......the first time took an hour....lol Did oil and filter change at same time......Valvoline 5w 10... Ready for rolling road on Friday.....:flame Dev :flame Dev :flame Dev
400BHP
I haven't actually seen the plugs in a supra engine yet, are they single electrode or multiple? My Golf GTI Turbo had 3 pronged platinum plugs I assume the supra is similar?
Geezabloke
The NGK's have a V type electrode..............:flame Dev
Gordon F
I've just picked this off the NZ site - any truth in it?? http://mkiv.supras.org.nz/techo.htm#SPARK_PLUGS
Geezabloke
Gordon That seems to be the general opinion, but in practice i found the car is running better with a larger gap? 1.0mm Im running peak of 1.27 bar on boost with no misfiring at all now...... Things that make you go Hmmmmmmmm:blink:

Geezabloke
Ive been told the coating wears off after the first 2k or so, so the benefits are marginal anyway. As for causing det, there are a lot of peeps on here running above stock boost with these plugs and i think you would have heard if they were causing probs. My outlook is, are they worth the huge cost increase over the BKR7E's or similar?
Steve W
Geez'... had the 'std' plugs in (Platinum, 6, 1.1mm) misfired/hesitated under VERY heavy loads - ~6,000plus/full wack. Tried BKR7E's at 1.1mm = exactly same misfire.. NOW got Platinum 7's gapped @ 0.8mm (which is how they came) ....= NO MORE MISFIRE ? ! The misfire only started after de-cat, so I presume it was only after increasing the boost, but then it only feels mild anyhow ? ! [the new Platinums are meant for the GTiR Sunny ! !] FatS. Alex
GTiR's and Honda's (Type R for definate) all use the same fitment as us. I haven't bothered to look beyond them but there are possibly others. The 4-pot turbo jap engines by default seem to come with colder plugs as standard than the Supra. Skylines use a different plug type....However I have here an IK24 and an IQ24 (IK for the Sup and IQ for the Skyline)....and I can't see an external difference....possible the internals are different but it would be useful to test the IQ's in the Supra... Don't know if I dare though...

With stock plugs I got a misfire (felt like a soft cut) at 15-16psi. With BKR7E-11's gapped down to 0.8 I got similar at 18-19PSI
