Council stole my car!

I have a J plate peugeot 405 estate that I was given about 5 months ago. It failed an MOT as it needs rear brakes, the owner just bought a new car for the family and gave the pug to me.

I have had it parked in my residents car park outside my flat. Its SORN, and registered in my name and my address, which is where its parked.

I came home from drinking in london on thursday night, to notice a sign on the window 'this vehicle has been abandoned on public open land and will be removed and destroyed in 24hrs by the council' etc etc!

How can they possibly do that, someone has clearly complained, but how is this an abandoned car when it is SORN, registered with me, and parked at its address. did they check nothing!!!!! :complain:

I was going to pretend id never seen the notice and report it stolen...

Any ideas?Im not bothered about it being destroyed, was going to get rid anyway! but want to prove point which is why i let them take it away!

I had exactly the same thing; I have an old Rover, which is in perfectly fine condition (with a current MOT), but because I haven't used it for ages, I registered it as off the road (SORN), rather than getting it taxed. I came down stairs a couple of months ago to find a notice on the car from the managing agents of the flats, saying that it was in contravention to the lease, and that the council have been notified, and that it will be taken away within 7 days!

Now, while I agree that the lease does state the whole "road worthy" condition, the car park is a private road; there's a huge sign at the entrance saying so, and it has a barrier stopping the general public from using it, so what exactly do my managing agents expect the council to do?

I left it, and it's still there now! :p

The managing agents here (Peverel) are useless though, they concentrate on petty things, like people putting washing near the windows, or parking their push bikes near the communal doors, but do absolutely nothing about the fact that motorbikes are being stolen from the "supposedly" secure garage (I have had three stolen in the last year!...

Sorry but I think they are right, theres nothing worse than having limited communal parking and having someone take up a space with some old banger they don't use (in your case for 5months). They arn't meant for 'storing' your cars afterall, otherwise where would it stop? As stated already, its not your land.

My 2p, no offense intended.

I don't care what these people say .... in my book it's theft of a vehicle by a growing communist government. If you took someone's car away without permission you would have ur ass dragged to the court. :swear: And a gowing number of busy bodies who want to stick their nose in other peoples business ...... :respect:
