Steve W
I am going through the motions of checking 'common' Pad suppliers at work..... (just bored more than anything else ! ) It may come in handy if anyone can't get Toyota, or 'better' Pads at any time - AND they're a LOT cheaper whilst still being 'fair'. The main problem is, the books/catalogs keep listing the Jap' pads for the UK model. I've posted pics of the Pad shadow pictures and the part numbers for UK and JAP (I think? ) here.......> > > http://homepage.ntlworld.com/s.wheatley/Brakes/ I am gonna' double check tomorrow with Mintex and Lockheed that they are in fact the right numbers.... IF they are, then it will also confirm that the Jap' spec Pads are also the ones from the Lexus GS300 (suggested several times by other members ! the UK ones are listed for the Celica GT4 as well ! ! ! ? ?) Please feel free to say if ANY of the pads appear wrong by size/ shape 'cos I'd like people to be able to USE these as a reference (you can give the pad numbers to any supplier ie Partco, and they can cross reference to Ferodo etc) [the Jap pics look like the ones I just took off... and the UK ones look just like my NEW ones I just put ON] FatS. kinje01
I've also done a little searching for pads for J-specs, and the best I've come up with are SBS carbon ceramics. Call a company called Questmead, and ask for Alan Brown. The pad number is 3058. Cost inc. VAT and p&p is £99. These pads are fine for circuit use, I did 200 miles at Bedford Autodrome last weekend, and they're only about half-worn. For road use the SBS carbon pads are ok, but they overheat on the circuit. Same pad no. cost about 15 quid less. Jes.
Steve W
yeah, I know that 'Performance Pads' are available, but I was after finding 'standard' alternatives. The Mintex and Lockheeds are gonna' be (hopefully) something like the Toyota pads for a LOT less money (~£40/45) Obviously NOT up to track or even fast road use, ONLY as a standard pad material. ADL are (I think, just trying to confirm) ACTUALLY the people who manufacture/supply Toyotas pads AMD discs ! ! SO, instead of going to Toyota and paying ~£70 for a set of pads, you can get 'em for ~£45 thru an alternative supplier ! (the UK discs I just bought from Toyota, in Toyota boxes, with the right Toyota numbers, were DEFINITELY ADL discs ! ! ) FatS.
Alex
Because these brakes were never official used in this country, they are had to find parts for. The GS300 had the same front's but not the same rears. Have you tried partco etc???
Steve W
Partco are where we get the Mintex's from... If you look at the "Mintex - Jap" photo it shows them as Lexus GS300 rears AND Supra rears ? ? I'm pretty sure they ARE the Jap' spec rear pads (I'll have to get the old pads out to 'match-up'). WHY both Mintex AND Lockheed show the Jap' spec Pads is a mystery 'cos they DON'T list 'imports' as such ? ? It's probably a 'cross-over' glich, but the pads ARE available, probably 'as' Lexus pads ?
