charlton
The seals have gone on my turbos so it is time to repair or upgrade. If I'm sorting the turbos it would be nice to get some more power from them, I don't have the cash to go single so what options are available and at what costs? Options I can think of are; Replace seals, no HP increase - cost? Swap turbos for Whifbitz hybrids, up to 440bhp - cost approx £2k including fitting (with Whifbitz) Swap turbos for Turbo Technics turbos, up to 480bhp - cost £685+ VAT (assume this is per unit without fitting) I am a noob to turbos so please excuse the simple thinking if I'm just picking on the pub ammo stats. The Turbo Technic units seem like they are better as they can handle more power and boost pressure. One more beginner question; I know you need to upgrade the ECU for fuel management, can a boost controller completely control the boost pressure, so you wouldn't need a restrictor ring? So what are everyone's opinions and what other options are out there?
ianhid
You need the ring (or something else in the exhaust) on a j-spec to create back pressure and stop the turbo running away on you, the wastegate is simply too small to do the job by itself. The UK and other markets had a bigger wastegate and so don't need a restrictor. With the right ECU you don't need an external boost controller, it'll look after things for you, couldn't tell you beyond Syvecs what will do that though. Don't know much about hybrids myself, keeping it on hand as an option for more power later
alibabba
Charlton, since it's sunday I've got some reading for you http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?444569-Stock-twins-replacement-upgrade-Hybrid-GT28R-s/page99 If I were you I would read through this thread, especially the last few pages. Also look up the project thread from beezupra. AFAIK he has a very simple setup without a standalone (AFC). There are also several j-spec cars in the same thread. Not sure if you're a member on SF, but it's worth it imo. Send a pm to Stu Hagen with all your questions about hybrids. No one comes close to his experience when it comes to hybrid/stock TT's. Good luck!
