Neil-NA Posted September 11, 2012 Share Posted September 11, 2012 I have a feeling i have a problem with my rav4.1, let me explain When seeting off i can make the car wheelspin, now this is supposed to be full time AWD, i would expect no wheel spin,what could be the problem and what should i check? straightsix Posted September 11, 2012 Share Posted September 11, 2012 (edited) They only use 4wd when needed - even though they are AWD. It's possibly to make the wheels spin until the hubs lock. Taken from an internet post on how the Rav 4 AWD works: "a RAV 4 that has the awd only cruises in fwd but if there is little traction (wheel spin, slip) then the rear wheels will receive torque from the transmission and thus making it awd, this system gives you awd when you need it but fwd when you need mpg" Is this an issue you've just noticed or has it always done it?
