Did the facelift VVTI come in both DBW and FBW?

Only DBW mate, but there is still a cable going to the throttle body, just not directly connected to the throttle butterfly (for the first 70-80%).

Do the guys change to FBW only so they can have a bigger throttle body & plenum?

FBW? Fly-By-Wire

vs

DBW - Drive-By-Wire.

It's the same thing!?

The non VVT-i is cable operated throttle only with a separate idle control system

VVT-i DBW has a cable to it to tell the electronics what you want by rotating a sensor, this is then relayed to the throttle control actuators via the ECU and in combination with the Knock, timing and cam position sensors to turn your command into reality or adjust it based on the data from the other sensors. It also controls the idle, thus eliminating Idle Control from the older models.

DBW on the stock ECU is (like the MAF) limited to the OEM version only. If you require more that 600HP then you may want to change it to a larger throttle and lose these functions or try to retro fit another DBW system with a new ECU in both cases.

  • 2 months later...

I bought a jun type plenum with a big throttle body 'from Parry', I intend in using a AEM V2 ecu what other components will I need to get this to work?

On the throttle body there is a Toyota sensor I assume it's a none vvti fbw system sensor.

My car is vvti.
